Núrel Bahí Reitz

Núrel Bahí Reitz is a PhD candidate at the African Studies Centre Leiden and a doctoral researcher at the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF). Her PhD research is part of the regional research centre ‘Transformations of Political Violence’ (TraCe), financed by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

In her PhD project ‘Diverging Memories: A comparative analysis of interpretations of the 1904-8 genocide in Namibia and the Majimaji War in Tanzania’, she will analyse narrations of the atrocities committed by the colonial governments in former ‘German South West Africa’ and former ‘German East Africa’. Beyond this, she will explore to what extent these narrations interrelate with different forms and intensities of collective action in the respective contexts.

Núrel holds a Master of Arts in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Marburg and a Bachelor of Arts in International Economics and Development from the University of Bayreuth.
