Privacy statement African Studies Centre Leiden, Leiden University, The Netherlands

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has come into force on 25 May 2018. This states that organizations must take responsibility for the careful handling of personal data. 

a. Who collects the data and what are the contact details?

The African Studies Centre Leiden (ASCL), Leiden University, (Wassenaarseweg 52, Leiden, asc@asc.leidenuniv.nl, 071-527 3372) and the Netherlands Association of African Studies (NVAS).
 

b. How can the Data Protection Officer be contacted?

c. Why are personal data used and what is being done with them?

Personal data are used to inform and keep addressees up to date about the activities of the Africa Studies Centre Leiden and its Library. The Library maintains borrowers administration via Leiden University’s central library system. The personal data of NVAS members is also used and maintained for the collection of subscription fees.
 

d. On what basis are personal data processed?

Individuals have given their free and informed permission to be included in the ASCL’s address database.
 

e. To which third parties are personal data forwarded, and in which country/countries are these third parties?

Personal data are not forwarded by the ASCL or the NVAS to third parties. The ASCL uses Google Analytics (GA) to gain insight in the web surf behaviour of its website visitors, enabling the ASCL to optimize the functionality of its website. Data collected by GA includes demographic data such as age and gender (if known by Google), certain device information about your computer, mobile device, or other device that you use to access the website. This information includes information such as your IP address, geolocation information, unique device identifiers, browser type and browser language.
 

f. How long are personal data stored/used?

Personal data are stored/used until an individual unsubscribes or dies.
 

g. How can an individual use his/her rights of access, deletion, correction, or transfer?

An individual can make contact with the ASCL for access, correction or transfer of personal data (via email: asc@asc.leidenuniv.nl), or can request the deletion of personal data via this form.

h. How can an individual withdraw consent? It must always be possible to withdraw consent.

i. Which external authority can an individual complain to?

To the Personal Data Authority, www.autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl.
 

j. What are the (possible) consequences of not providing personal data?

If an individual does not provide personal data then s/he cannot make use of the service in question (receiving newsletters, etc.).

 


Privacyverklaring Afrika-Studiecentrum Leiden, Universiteit Leiden, Nederland

Vanaf 25 mei 2018 is de Algemene verordening gegevensbescherming (AVG) van toepassing. Die bepaalt dat organisaties verantwoordelijkheid nemen om zorgvuldig om te gaan met persoonsgegevens.

a. Wie verzamelt de gegevens en wat zijn de contactgegevens?

Het Afrika-Studiecentrum Leiden (ASCL), Universiteit Leiden, (Wassenaarseweg 52, Leiden, asc@asc.leidenuniv.nl, 071-527 3372) en de Nederlandse Vereniging voor Afrika Studies (NVAS).

b. Hoe kan contact opgenomen worden met de Functionaris Gegevensbescherming?

c. Waarom worden de persoonsgegevens gebruikt en wat wordt er mee gedaan?

Persoonsgegevens worden gebruikt om geadresseerden te informeren en op de hoogte te stellen van activiteiten van het Afrika-Studiecentrum Leiden en zijn bibliotheek. De bibliotheek houdt een lenersadministratie bij via het centrale bibliotheeksysteem van de Universiteit Leiden. Persoonsgegevens van leden van de NVAS worden ook gebruikt en bijgehouden voor het innen van contributie.

d. Op welke grondslag worden de persoonsgegevens verwerkt?

Personen hebben vrijelijk en geïnformeerd toestemming gegeven voor opname in het adressenbestand van het ASCL.

e. Aan welke derden worden de persoonsgegevens doorgestuurd, en in welk land(en) bevinden deze derden zich?

Persoonsgegevens worden niet door het ASCL of de NVAS aan derden doorgestuurd. Het ASCL gebruikt Google Analytics (GA) om inzicht te krijgen in het websurfgedrag van zijn websitebezoekers, waardoor het ASCL de functionaliteit van zijn website kan optimaliseren. Data verzameld door GA omvat demografische data zoals leeftijd en geslacht (voor zover bij Google bekend), en bepaalde informatie over uw computer, mobiel- of ander apparaat dat u gebruikt om de website te bezoeken. Deze informatie omvat informatie zoals uw IP-adres, geolocatie, unieke apparaat-ID, browsertype en browsertaal.

f. Hoe lang worden de persoonsgegevens opgeslagen/gebruikt?

Persoonsgegevens worden opgeslagen/gebruikt tot het moment van uitschrijving of overlijden.

g. Hoe kan de persoon gebruik maken van zijn rechten op inzage, verwijdering, correctie, overdraagbaarheid?

Persoon kan contact opnemen met het ASCL voor inzage, correctie of overdracht van de persoonsgegevens (per email: asc@asc.leidenuniv.nl), of kan de persoonsgegevens laten verwijderen via dit formulier.

h. Hoe kan de persoon zijn toestemming intrekken? Toestemming moet altijd ingetrokken kunnen worden.

i. Bij welke externe toezichthoudende autoriteit kan de persoon een klacht indienen?

j. Wat zijn de (eventuele) gevolgen van het niet verstrekken van de persoonsgegevens?

Indien de persoon geen persoonsgegevens verstrekt kan van de betreffende dienst (het ontvangen van nieuwsbrieven etc.)  geen gebruik gemaakt worden.
