Yacouba Cissao

Yacouba Cissao is a socio-anthropologist and researcher at the Institute of social sciences of the National Centre for Scientific and Technological Research in Burkina Faso. In 2018, he defended his thesis on the management of conflicts originating from political, land and religious competition in Eastern Burkina Faso. His other research interests are migration, mobility, security and border issues in Burkina Faso.

He was a Coimbra Group scholarship fellow at KU Leuven (Belgium) in 2019 and is currently a member of the Association for the anthropology of social change and development (APAD), the Mande Studies Association (MANSA), the Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence and International Research Network Media, Security Crises and Youth in West Africa.

During his fellowship at the African Studies Centre Leiden he will focus on informality and people’s livelihood strategies in border spaces in the African context.
