Thierno Mouctar Bah

Native of Foutah-Djallon, Guinea-Conakry, Thierno Bah has been teaching in Cameroon since 1972. He is now professor at the University of Yaounde 1, and Director of the Doctoral school (history) at the University of Ngaoundere.
He got his Master degree at the University of Dakar (Senegal) in 1966, and his Doctorate at the University of Paris 1-Sorbonne in 1972. His main areas of specialisation are military history, Islam, security and peace in Africa.
Thierno Bah is author and co-author of many publications, notably: Traditional Military Architecture in Western Sudan 16e-19e century (Yaounde-Cle 1985), Intellectuals, Nationalism and Panafricanism Ideal (CODESRIA publications 2005), Traditional Mechanism for Conflict Resolution in Africa (UNESCO publications 1996).
Founding member of the Association of African historians, member of CODESRIA, consulting at UNESCO, he was the editor of the panafricanist Journal Afrika Zamani from 1972 to 2001.
Thierno Bah has already been a visiting fellow at the African Studies Centre, Leiden, from February to July 1996.
