Edwin Adjei

Edwin Asa Adjei is a Research Fellow at the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana. He holds a PhD in African Studies from the University of Ghana. His research focuses on interrogating African literature (oral and written). Of particular interest to him is the way literature and literary performances may both embody and act upon social constructions among cultures globally and especially in Africa. Edwin is currently engaged in collaborative research and publications with other scholars on the integration of indigenous knowledge systems in Ghanaian oral literature in climate science education and policy in the 21st century and on sustainable environmental education and climate change activism through popular culture. At the African Studies Centre Leiden, Edwin is engaged in the examination of gendered economic violence as a central, yet underexplored theme in contemporary African young adult (YA) fiction, with focus on the genre’s potential to illuminate how young people experience, interpret, and negotiate structural violence from within their everyday lives. Edwin is affiliated to the CRG Conflict Continuities.
