Chong Zang

Chong Zhang is a PhD candidate at the Institute of Economic Sociology and Multinationals (IESM, Shanghai University). He will be at the African Studies Centre Leiden as a guest PhD researcher for a period of 12 months.Previously, he completed an MA degree in Anthropology at Shanghai University. His doctoral research is an interdisciplinary study encompassing Anthropology, Sociology, and African studies. He conducts research on Chinese investment in African countries including Ghana, Ethiopia and Egypt, especially in the sectors of agriculture and infrastructure, with a particular focus on the daily interaction from both Chinese and African sides to understand the social and cultural outcomes.
