Inclusive growth is important for the development and political stability of South Africa and the African continent. In our research programme we concern ourselves with how Innovation for Inclusive Development (I4ID) support can help us achieve development priorities. We grapple with a core question:
How can analytical frameworks be improved and developed to improve our understanding of the dynamics of I4ID and also to analyse / explore opportunities for inclusive innovation?

By taking an innovation systems perspective Prof. Sara Grobbelaar and colleagues have explored how I4ID policy-making may be strengthened through improved analytical frameworks and monitoring and evaluation instruments. This programme’s relevance for STI policy-making lies in that we explore a new breed of policy instruments which will have to be developed in order to create more effective local innovation systems, role players and institutions that will contribute to inclusive socioeconomic development. In this seminar Prof. Grobbelaar reflects on two research projects in the healthcare context.

This seminar is organized in the framework of the ASCL Collaborative Research Group 'Governance, entrepreneurship and inclusive development' and the Centre for Frugal Innovation in Africa CFIA.
Dr André Leliveld will give an introduction. Chair: Prof. Marleen Dekker.
