Welcome to our new (Res)MA and minor students!

In the first week of September, at the start of the academic year, we welcomed our new (Res)MA students in African Studies. A total of 17 students enrolled in these two programmes. The Research Master students were welcomed by Azeb Amha (chair of the ResMA programme) and Tim Sanders (student advisor). The MA students were introduced to the master programme by Karin Nijenhuis (chair of the programme) and Tim Sanders (student advisor), after which they got an introduction to the course 'Africa in Practice' by Akinyinka Akinyoade and Esma Karadag. After lunch, a Q&A session with students and alumni of African Studies provided the newly arrived students with career perspectives, followed by a meet-and-greet with the Leiden Student Association for Africanists LSA Mugusa. After introductions to the ASCL and their new study programme, the students are looking forward to starting their coursework.

LDE minors

The LDE Minor African Dynamics started on 1 September with 24 enrolled students and the Minor Frugal Innovation for Sustainable Global Development with 18 students. The days were filled with introductions, preparations for the semester and activities to get to know each other better.

We wish them all the best in their studies and hope they enjoy their time in Leiden!
