Screening and discussion of Oscar-nominated 'Soundtrack to a Coup d'Etat' (2024)
In collaboration with the African Studies Centre Leiden, the Jazz Department of the Royal Conservatoire and leff, Lectorate FILM presents a screening and discussion of Johan Grimonprez's multi-award winning Soundtrack to a Coup d'Etat (2024). Told through a breathtaking, ideas-packed journey that weaves together American jazz and the geopolitical machinations of the 1950s and 60s, the film examines the 1961 assassination of Congolese leader Patrice Lumumba.
Following the screening, there will be a discussion between the filmmaker and invited guests who are experts in the topics raised in the film: Congo expert Alphonse Muambi and Professor of Politics and Governance in Africa Mayke Kaag. Free tickets are available here.
