CRG Seminar: Where global expectations meet local action, insights from Blue Skies
Primary tabs
How can companies stay true to local priorities while navigating increasing global sustainability demands?
In this upcoming talk, Fleur de Wit (Senior Sustainability Manager at Blue Skies) will share how Blue Skies, an international fresh fruit processing company with operations across Africa, approaches sustainability in practice. Founded on the principle of “value-adding at source,” Blue Skies processes fresh-cut fruit for international markets directly in the countries where it is grown, such as Ghana, Egypt, and South Africa. Their model challenges conventional supply chains and focuses on delivering shared value through inclusive development.
Rooted in a “Here for Good” sustainability strategy, they seek to balance environmental goals with local social impact. This for example includes safe and good working conditions, taking steps to reach their targets on waste and water, supporting local communities through the Blue Skies Foundation, and building long-term relationships with smallholder farmers.
This session will explore the tensions and opportunities that arise when global sustainability standards meet diverse local contexts and cultural expectations. The session invites reflection and discussion on how business, research, and policy can collaborate for inclusive and environmentally sustainable development in African economies.
