William Manful - Have Democracies Failed in Africa: A Case Study of the Republic of Ghana
This project looks at the experience that Ghana is having so far with the multiparty political dispensation. Unlike Europe and other parts of the world the democratic political system has not had the desired or expected socioeconomic impact on the country and its citizens. The thesis will therefore earmark four sectors in Ghana for academic examination to ascertain the kind of transformation that has taken place in the West African state since 7th January 1993 when the country’s first democratically elected President Jerry John Rawlings was sworn into office. The four sectors that will be studied in the dissertation will be the Health, and Education sectors as well as the Electoral Administration process, and the Judicial Services in Ghana’s Fourth Republic.
