The role of media in Africa

The current process of political liberalisation in Africa has had a significant impact on the media. One of its major effects has been the emergence and development of a private press. Several African governments, however, continue to set strict limits to the functioning of the private press. This seminar attempts to analyse the present role of the media in a selected number of African countries and regions.
