Ambassador Jana is a human rights lawyer who, among others, was a member of the committee that passed legislation on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in South Africa.

Ambassador Jana will talk on the concept, nature and universality of human rights, both in the international context and set against South Africa's experience. She will focus particularly on the question whether human rights violations can ever be justified, discussing the phenomenon of the Truth Commission as against the problems of blanket amnesties and retributive justice.
