Prof. Dr Mirjam de Bruijn was interview by Algemeen Dagblad about the impact of mobile phones in Africa, both positive and negative. Mobile phones have had an enormous impact on the African continent. Thanks to the introduction of cell phones, family ties are being (re)strenghtened and communication has become faster and easier. But according to De Bruijn there is a downside to these improvements of modern communication. Members of the African diaspora experience ongoing pressure because of obligations by and expectations of family members, giving them less chances for self development.
