Prof. Megan Vaughan, who gave the Stephen Ellis Annual Lecture 2022, was interviewed by Medisch Contact about public health in Africa during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the interview Prof. Vaughan explains why the excess mortality rates in African countries were relatively low and why it is paradoxal that the pandemic took a different course than expected.
