Jan Abbink in Nieuwsuur about the conflict in Tigray, Ethiopia

Jan Abbink was interviewed by Nieuwsuur about the war in Ethiopia’s Tigray region. The conflict has erupted in the last weeks between the TPLF rebels and allied groups and government forces in parts of the regions of Tigray, Afar and Amhara. The conflict is causing great concern within the international community, as some countries support the rebels whilst others support Ethiopia. Jan Abbink explains the war is a conflict between elites about power, and could potentially become explosive if Egypte, Sudan, and other countries start to contribute.
