The image of Africa in the West is very much one of famine, drought and civil war. Without denying that Africa is confronted with several immense problems, during this afternoon its potential in terms of people, culture and art will be stressed. We are delighted that two distinguished African speakers are willing to present their views.

Chair:   Prof. Peter Kooijmans: a former Minister of Foreign Affairs and now a Member of the International Court of Justice in The Hague
