Het ASCL biedt momenteel twee promotieplekken aan: één over multipolariteit en militaire samenwerking in Afrika, en één over klimaat en krijgsmacht in Afrika. De projecten zijn onderdeel van de Kennishub Afrika van de Nederlandse Defensie Academie (NLDA) en worden door het ASCL met de NLDA beheerd en begeleid.

The ASCL calls for applications for its Visiting Fellowship Programme in 2027. Applicants must submit a proposal that is in line with one of these two Collaborative Research Groups: ‘Conflict Continuities’ or ‘Planetary Health in and from Africa’. Preference will be given to applicants based in Africa. Deadline: 3 May 2026.

Our latest Library Highlight focuses on examples of Onitsha (Nigeria) market literature from the period surrounding the death of Patrice Lumumba in the Congo, in 1961. These pamphlets, from the archive of British political scientist Ken Post, shed light on popular opinion in Nigeria in this tumultuous period in African history.

Organised by the final cohort of Research Master students of African Studies, the conference 'Mining Matters: Resource and Mineral Extraction Across Africa' was a huge success. It allowed both seasoned scholars and students to share their knowledge about resource extraction in Africa.
