Tessa Smeets

In 2009 I started my academic career at Maastricht University where I graduated for the bachelor in Health Sciences. From January 2013 till July 2013 I voluntarily worked at the Public Health Unit of West Gonja Hospital, Damongo, Northern Region, Ghana. In September 2013 I started my master studies in Master Management, Policy-Analysis and Entrepreneurship in Health and Life Sciences at the Free University Amsterdam. Currently I am an intern at the African Studies Centre in Leiden performing research on the notions of the Ghanaian migrant community in the Hague on the usage of contraceptives.

My personal research interests are: Sub-Saharan African countries, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and religion.
