Juul Kwaks

Juul Kwaks is a PhD candidate at the Center for International Conflict Analysis and Management at Radboud University. Her project centers around homemaking practices in displacement and how this affects refugees’ access to land and relationships with the host community. Her research focuses specifically on refugees in northern Uganda. Previously, Juul was involved in the project Pedagogies of Peace and Conflict in the Great Lakes region and published a book based on her fieldwork with former IDPs in northern Uganda. In this book, she presents various life histories and analyzes the long-term effects of displacement on social life. Juul’s main goal in research is to focus on the microlevel effects of conflict, thereby centring human beings and all their intricacies. Juul holds a BA from University College Maastricht, an MSc in Political Science, and a Research Master's degree in African Studies.
