Jan Hoorweg

Jan Hoorweg retired in 2004. He is currently affiliated to the African Studies Centre as an honorary researcher. At different times he was Professor of Food Security at the University of Wageningen (NL) and Professor of Human Ecology at Moi University (Eldoret). He was also the Director of the Food and Nutrition Studies Programme (Kenya) and the Coordinator of the Coast Environment Research Station in Malindi. He is a pyschologist by training and has done research in the areas of nutrition, project evaluation, rural development and environment. His current interests are coastal ecology and issues of coastal development. He has done extensive research on the Kenya Coast and is editor of the Kenya Coast Handbook and the Proceedings of the series of Coastal Ecology Conferences.
