Ingrid Glorie

Ingrid Glorie studied Dutch Language and Literature and Comparative Literature at the Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam between 1987 and 1996. Between 1993 and 1996 she lived in South Africa, where she did an internship at the University of the Western Cape. For her Masters thesis in Comparative Literature, she researched the relationship between Afrikaans poet N.P. van Wyk Louw and his Dutch contemporaries, like Martinus Nijhoff en Menno ter Braak. After her studies and return from South Africa, she worked alternately as a high school teacher, a journalist or editor at various publications. Between 2000 and 2004 she was a PhD student at Utrecht University, writing about the process of Afrikaans literature's growing independence towards Dutch literary examples and influences. This study is unfinished.

Over the years Glorie, however, published several articles in Dutch and Afrikaans academic journals. After a second term as a high school teacher and remedial teacher, in 2012 Glorie became editor-in-chief of "Maandblad Zuid-Afrika", the magazine of the Zuid-Afrikahuis in Amsterdam. In 2018, this monthly magazine changed into the quarterly "Zuid-Afrika Spectrum". In 2018 Glorie also became correspondent for the Netherlands for www.voertaal.nu.

In 2014 she organized the first 'Week van de Afrikaanse Roman'. This event was consequently repeated in 2016, 2017 and 2019. In 2018 she was one of the organizers of 'Festival voor het Afrikaans'. She works as a literary agent and translated several Afrikaans novels. Glorie is a research fellow of the Department of Afrikaans and Dutch at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
