Guus van Westen

Guus van Westen is a development geographer with the International Development Studies Group at the Faculty of Geosciences, Utrecht University.

His work is concerned with equitable and sustainable development in the global South, much of it concerned with Africa. His focus is mostly on private sector development and local economic development. His work ranged from housing and mobility in urban settings to rural and urban land governance issues. He is also the deputy chair of LANDac, the Netherlands Academy on Land Governance for Development. Current research interests focus on the impact of foreign investment in agribusiness on local food security and on the impact of foregn investment flows on the pattern of urbanization in Sub-sahara Africa.
