Gerbert van der Aa

Gerbert van der Aa was born in 1968 and is a Dutch historian and journalist, specializing in North and West Africa. He has been traveling through the Sahara and Sahel since the late 1980s and works as a freelance reporter for several newspapers, magazines and TV news channels. He has written four books: about Libya, Nigeria, Sudan and the Tuareg, and has twice been nominated for the Bob den Uyl Prize, a Dutch award for travel writing.
