Colomba Muriungi

Colomba Muriungi is a full Professor of African Literature in the Department of Humanities and the Director, Quality Assurance Humanities at Chuka University, Kenya. She has been the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in the same university. Colomba has previously worked as a lecturer at Kenyatta University, Nairobi, and she specialises in Postcolonial Studies, Gender Studies and Children’s Literature. She has a vast experience in research and has published many research articles, attended learned conferences and presented papers. Colomba has also co-edited a book with the title Cultural Archives of Atrocity: Essays on the Protest Tradition Kenyan Literature Culture and Society, published by Routledge.

In addition, Colomba has won grants through proposal writing, where some grants have been utilised in research work, while others have gone into facilitating needy students to complete their studies in Kenya. Presently, Colomba is working on a research funded by the Canadian Organization for Development through Education (CODE) on “Sexual and Reproductive Health Literacy Crisis for Adolescents in Rural Primary Schools in Kisii Central Sub-County, Kenya”.
 

Colomba has also supervised many students at PhD and Masters Level to graduation, reviewed papers for publication and also participated in a number of community empowerment programmes. She holds a doctorate in African Children’s literature (2006) and Master of Arts in Literature (2003), both from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, and a Bachelor of Education (Arts) from Kenyatta University (1998), Nairobi.
