Christopher Nwike

Dr. Nwike Christopher Chinedu is a linguist and translation studies scholar whose work focuses on African languages, media translation, and indigenous knowledge systems. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Linguistics and Igbo from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he was awarded the Ife Ogbo Prize for the best Igbo student in long essay. He later earned a Master’s degree in Linguistics (Translation Studies), during which he specialised in the documentation and translation of legal information into Igbo, aiming to bridge the gap between legal discourse and indigenous language accessibility.

Dr. Nwike obtained his PhD from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. His doctoral research, titled Subtitling in Selected Igbo Films, investigated how meaning and cultural identity are negotiated through audiovisual translation in indigenous films. He is currently a Lecturer in the Department of Linguistics, Foreign and Nigerian Languages at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), where he teaches and supervises research in linguistics, translation studies, and African language media.

His research interests include audiovisual translation, subtitling, legal translation, literary translation, African linguistics, Igbo language, indigenous media, language and identity, and his country of focus is Nigeria, with broader interest in African multilingual contexts.
