Amel Ouchenane

Amel Ouchenane is a Youth, Peace, and Security Officer at the UNDP Regional Service Centre for Africa, within the Regional Governance and Peacebuilding Team, based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In this role, she provides advisory and programmatic support to advance the Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS) agenda across Africa. Her work includes supporting the development of national and regional mechanisms and policies to strengthen meaningful youth participation in conflict prevention and peacebuilding processes. She also contributes to UN inter-agency coordination on YPS, builds strategic partnerships, and engages with diverse stakeholders to promote the agenda continent-wide.

Additionally, Amel supports the development of knowledge products and contributes to the capacity building of various actors working on youth, peace, and security. Prior to joining UNDP, Amel served for five years as a Youth Expert within the Department of International Projects at the OIC Youth Forum, an intergovernmental institution affiliated with the OIC. Her work focused on youth policy, programme cycle management, youth empowerment, and peacebuilding in OIC Member States. She also worked as an individual consultant for the UNESCO Office for the Gulf States and Yemen. Amel holds a Ph.D. in International Relations (African Studies) from the University of Algiers, with a specialization in conflict prevention, resolution, peacebuilding, and regional security. She is a member of the Executive Committee of the Arab Society for Conflict Studies (ASCS), a member of the United Nations Women Peacebuilders Network in the Arab Region, and a member of the Algerian Women Foundation.

Amel is fluent in Arabic, French, English, and Turkish.
