Alette Vonk

Alette Vonk is a lecturer in Intercultural Management within a minor for the Faculty of Humanities at Leiden University. She also runs her own company and provides training, coaching and guidance for change process, in the field of intercultural management, with Sub Saharan Africa as her specialisation. As a background, Alette holds an MSc in Development Sociology from Leiden University. During her studies, she conducted research through the ASCL on the rural social economy in a village in South-West Cameroon. In her working life, Alette's career included 4.5 years working for SNV in northern Benin, where she provided support to women's groups (socially: the women wanted to stop forced exchange marriages; and also economically: through micro-credit). For 5 years, Alette worked for SNV in the Volta Region of Ghana in local governance and organisational development of social society. After returning to the Netherlands, she worked for 5 years in the Schilderwijk district with many different migrant groups, after which she started her own company since 2010. Her clients range from a Dutch Moroccan foundation targeting Islamic radicalisation to multinationals and development organisations working in or with African countries.
