Abstract

Despite its economic and cultural potential, the Kenya Coast finds itself in a marginal position. The Kenya Coast Handbook traces the causes behind this situation and analyses it from different angles: political, economic and social. The present text serves as introductory chapter. The Handbook consists of a further 27 chapters arranged in seven sections, covering respectively general background, people and history, economic resources, human resources, development issues and an epilogue as well as a compilation of statistical figures and a bibliography.
