| Abstract | The Kano Plain in Kisumu District today provides examples of both small-scale individual and large-scale organized rice irrigation activities. The area has a rather uniform ecology and is largely inhabited by a single ethnic group, the Luo. This report provides background information on the survey area and consists of a review of relevant data on the ecology, economy and infrastructure as available from existing publications.
