New Library System African Studies Centre Leiden: Some delays in January

The library system of the African Studies Centre Leiden is being integrated into the library system of Leiden University. This will both effect the ASCL Online Catalogue and the lending system. In January staff will still work to transfer the old library system to the new system. Current book loans will be automatically transferred. All book titles will be transferred to the Leiden catalogue http://catalogue.leidenuniv.nl (both in the general catalogue and in a separate sub-catalogue).

Practical issues

  • the old online catalogue http://catalogue.ascleiden.nl was available until 31 December 2017;
  • patrons can use their university card (LU Card) for borrowing books;
  • patrons from outside Leiden University will need a new card, which will be handed out by the ASCL;
  • during the transition period, books can be returned and new books can be borrowed;
  • some delays can occur in the first months during borrowing transactions;
  • several products of the ASCL Library (alerts, abstracts online, acquisition lists) have to be redesigned. It will take several weeks (and sometimes months) before the new versions will be ready.
