Ingrid Samset

Ingrid Samset is an Assistant Professor of Peace and Conflict Studies at Leiden University College, Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs, Leiden University. She has more than ten years’ experience from research and consultancies related to sub-Saharan Africa, including academic studies, aid evaluations and electoral observation. Samset’s PhD is in political science from the University of Bergen and her dissertation examined transitions from war in Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo. She has also conducted post-doctoral research on civil-military relations in Brazil. Before joining Leiden University, Samset taught at the University of Limerick and contributed research and policy advice at the Chr. Michelsen Institute. Her research addresses questions about transitions from armed conflict and authoritarian rule; related to security, collective violence, justice, accountability and the nature of the state.
