Howard Stein

Howard Stein is a Professor in the Department of Afroamerican and African Studies (CAAS) and also teaches in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Michigan. He is a development economist educated in Canada, the US and the UK who has taught in both Asia and Africa.  He is the editor or author of more than a dozen books and collections. His research has focused on foreign aid, finance and development, structural adjustment, health and development, industrial policy and rural property right transformation. He has lectured and done research in nearly a dozen African countries. His most recent project is on property right formalization and poverty in rural Tanzania financed by a grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation.
