Zacharia Samwel Masanyiwa

Dr. Zacharia Samwel Masanyiwa is a Senior Lecturer and Researcher at the Institute of Rural Development Planning, Tanzania. He holds a PhD in Social Sciences from Wageningen University, the Netherlands, MSc in Development Training and Education from the University of Wolverhampton, UK and BSc in Animal Science from Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania. Between 2000 and 2005, he worked for World Vision Tanzania (a development, advocacy and relief NGO) in different capacities where he was involved in designing, impleme­ntation, coordi­na­tion, moni­to­ring and evaluation of community-based rural development projects. Since May 2007, Dr. Zacharia is an academic staff at the Institute of Rural Development Planning where he teaches a number of under­gra­duate and postgraduate courses including Development Studies, Social Develo­p­ment Planning, Project Planning and Management, and Environmental Communication and Education. His research interests include decentralization, local governance, gender, social capital, poverty reduction and participatory development approaches.
