I have an advanced academic background (MA, MSc, LLM) and more than three years’ experience in both academic and policy-oriented desk and field research on conflict and peacebuilding in Sub-Saharan Africa (mainly the Horn of Africa). In addition, I worked for more than four years managing international human rights programmes with NGOs in the Netherlands and Malawi. I previously gained professional experience in the field of conflict research and analysis at: the University of Amsterdam; the Conflict Research Unit of the Netherlands Institute of International Relations ‘Clingendael’; Upact; Beyond Violence; Heidelberg Institute for International Conflict Research; Insight on Conflict; and International Crisis Group. As of May 2015, I will work for Conflict Dynamics International in Nairobi. My professional focus is on the Horn of Africa, in particular Somalia, Sudan and South Sudan.
