Mohammed Bello Yunusa

Mohammed Bello Yunusa holds a B.Sc. (Sociology), an M.Sc. (Urban and Regional Planning) and a PhD (Geography) and Proficiency certificate in Computer Applications. He rose through the ranks from Graduate Assistant in 1980 to the current rank of Professor of Urban and Regional Planning in 2004 at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He is a trained and seasoned educator and researcher, with vast academic and professional networks within and outside Nigeria.

Professional Experience and Personal Skills

As an academic he has research links with, among others, the Nordic Africa Institute, United Nations Research Institute for Social Development in Geneva, Africa Studies Centre in Leiden, Council for Development of Social Research In Africa in Dakar, The International Forum for Rural Transport Development in London and Department of Human Geography, University of Stockholm, Sweden. He was a laureate at the CODESRIA Governance Institute and has been a Director of the Child and Youth Studies Institute of CODESRIA, Dakar.

Within his University, he has served as the Head of Urban and Regional Planning, member of both Post Graduate School Board and Senate of the University; as well as Assistant and Deputy Dean, and currently Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Design also of the University.  Lately he was the Managing Director of the Ahmadu Bello University Consultancy Services Ltd (a resource mobilization arm of the university).  All these are in addition to his primary academic responsibility of teaching, research and publication. Thus, he has been involved in many local, national and international study networks, conferences and workshops on issues of urban and regional development and management. He also coordinated and supervised several studies and theses in urban and regional planning at all academic levels – Bachelor, Master, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees.

Mohammed Bello Yunusa is fluent in Igala, Hausa and English. He has excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, good organizational and coordination skills with keen attention to details. He also has good initiative skills, enthusiasm, and readiness to work in multi-cultural situations, highly diplomatic with people and sensitive to local culture. He is ready to work under pressure without compromising professional ethics and standards.
