Jan Hontelez

Jan Hontelez is an epidemiologist at the department of public health at the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. He obtained his PhD in February 2013 for his thesis entitled “The Impact of Antiretroviral Therapy on the HIV Epidemic in South Africa”, and received a VENI award for his research proposal entitled “Elimination of HIV in Sub-Saharan Africa: From Promise to Useful Interventions”. His main focus of research on mathematical modeling of HIV epidemics in sub-Saharan Africa in order to understand the dynamics of the epidemics and provide support for decision making on prevention and treatment strategies in Sub-Saharan Africa. He is also affiliated with the Africa Centre for Health and Population Studies in South Africa and the Radboud University in Nijmegen.
