Arno Willekes

Since my studies in Cultural Anthropology in the early nineties, I have always been interested in the relationship between music and society. As a working, gigging and teaching musician, I have experienced most of the practical aspects of making music professionally and also studied musicians in Senegal. Socio-cultural aspects of playing djembe music in Senegal became the main focus of my master thesis and since 1999 I can call myself MA in Cultural Anthropology!

My main employment is teaching people from 8 to 88 years old playing the djembe, congas, cajon, drumkit etc. I am also specialised in workshops with large groups and playing concerts as a percussionist with various smaller and larger groups.
