Alfons Fransen

Current employment
SNV Netherlands development organisation, senior Partnership and Business Development officer

With a PhD on financing water management in the seventeenth and eighteen century in the area of Amsterdam and Utrecht, Alfons Fransen currently has a prime interest in economic history of Africa and more in particular East and Southern Africa. Earlier research with a strong focus on financial, quantitative affairs has proven to be fruitful to show new insights. He would like to take this further to less-researched areas such as 20th century Africa. The history of livelihood management and poverty at household level and public poverty alleviation policy in Zambia in the twentieth century is the current focus of his qualitative and -where feasible- quantitative research. In this research both macro and micro angles will be covered, using approaches and methodologies from economic and anthropologic fields.
