Linda van de Kamp is a cultural anthropologist. Her
research activities concentrate on religion,
South-South transnational connections, gender and
reproductive issues, cities, violence, and
insecurity. Linda has done in-depth research on the
emergence of Brazilian Pentecostalism in Mozambique.
Various Pentecostal churches, preachers of Brazilian
origin and elements of Brazilian cultural styles
have become influential, and provide Pentecostalism
in Mozambique with a transnational dimension that is
oriented on South-South relations. Upwardly mobile
women in particular engage with Brazilian
Pentecostalism when it comes to issues of marriage
and sexuality.
Linda van de Kamp is coordinator of the
Consortium of Development Partnerships (CDP).
CDP is an international research network linking
different institutions and scholars devoted to
conducting collaborative research in Africa. The
research is relevant to policy issues of economic
development, democratization and conflict
resolution.
On Friday 16 September 2011, Linda van de Kamp
defended her PhD entitled 'Violent Conversion:
Brazilian Pentecostalism and the urban pioneering of
women in Mozambique' at the VU University, Amsterdam. Her promotors are Prof.
André Droogers (VU University) and Dr. Rijk van Dijk
(African Studies Centre). Linda van de Kamp received
the distinction Cum Laude.
