PhD
Inge Butter is a cultural anthropologist specialized in
Arabic language and culture. Her MA thesis dealt with
the informal garbage collectors of Cairo, the zabbaleen.
As of March 2011 she is a Ph.D. student based at the
African Studies Centre. The preliminary title of her
research project is, ‘Arabization and Islamization at
the margins: The role of Arab and Islamic ICTS in the
formation of cultural and religious communal identities
amongst marginal Muslims in post-conflict N’Djamena,
Chad’. The MaGW-funded project will be supervised by
Prof. Mirjam de Bruijn (ASC) and Prof. Maarten Mous
(Univ. Leiden). |
