Akin Omotayo

Dr. Akin Omotayo was born on the 20th of July 1956 at Ikere Ekiti in Nigeria. He had his childhood and seconday education in the same town, and holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree from Virginia State University Petersburg USA,1983 and 1984 respectively, and holds a PhD in Rural sociology from Ahmadu Bello Univerity Zaria, Nigeria.

Omotayo started his University teaching career in 1989 after a stint with the Ondo State civil service. He worked as Agricultural Extension Specilalist at the National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services, Ahmadu Bello
University Zaria between 1990 and 1997. He moved to the University of Agriculture Abeokuta in August 1997 as a Senior Lecturer and served as head of the Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development between September 1997 and Ocotber 2001. Currently Omotayo is an Associate Professor in the same department.

Omotayo has published widely on issues dealing with land use,pastoralism and livestock production systems. His current research interests are in the area of population, land use, agro-pastoral production and the application of Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in analyzing rural social and production systems.
