THIS SEMINAR IS CANCELLED Seminar: Pedagogy and the Identity of Sub-Saharan African societies

The ASC is organizing this seminar in collaboration with the Centre for Collective Learning & Action (CCoLA). The seminar will be held later.

Logo CCOLAThis seminar will consider the results of an ongoing project commissioned by CCoLA and conducted by the University of Maastricht that aims to raise awareness and build corrective processes when addressing issues relating to the representation of Africa and the African community in the Western media. The research has mapped out existing educational programmes in primary schools in the Netherlands and presents a discourse analysis of their didactic methods and how they contribute to the first impressions that primary-school children have of societies in Sub-Saharan Africa. The seminar provides an opportunity for expert feedback, criticism and recommendations regarding the design of accurate school curricula in an attempt to present a fair and well-balanced image of Sub-Saharan Africa.
