Final conference report 'Dutch Multinational Businesses, Dutch Government and the Promotion of Productive Employment in Sub-Sahara Africa'

On 15 September 2017 the African Studies Centre Leiden (ASCL), the University of Nairobi and the Kenyan Association of Manufacturers (KAM) hosted the final conference for the NWO/WOTRO research programme (part of the Knowledge Platform on Inclusive Development Policies in Africa, INCLUDE) Dutch Multinational Businesses, Dutch Government and the Promotion of Productive Employment in Sub-Sahara Africa: A Comparative Study of Kenya and Nigeria.

The main objective of the meeting  was to share and discuss research findings and policy recommendations on how the business activities and investments of Dutch Multinationals (MNCs) have been contributing to productive employment in Africa. Evidence was drawn from research conducted in the agricultural, horticultural, and energy sectors in Nigeria and Kenya by the African Studies Centre Leiden in partnership with University of Nairobi and Kenyan Association of Manufacturers (KAM) as well as the Enugu Chamber of Mines, Commerce and Agriculture and the African Heritage Institute of Nigeria.

The event was well attended by stakeholders from academia, Dutch government and business community. This report summarises the key messages presented during the day as well as the points raised during the lively debates after each sessions.
