The Africa Works! conference on 16 & 17 October was a big success! More than 700 people joined us in the Holiday Inn in Leiden. The ASC and the NABC organized this international conference that brought together knowledge institutes, companies, NGOs and policymakers to create new partnerships. The keynote speech by Julia Duncan-Cassell, the Liberia Minister of Gender and Development, impressed many conference visitors. Hans Docter, Dutch Special Envoy on Ebola, received a petition that was drawn up during the conference and asked for immediate action on Ebola from the Dutch government and the EU. Rabobank's Berry Marttin gave a presentation on the Banking4food programme. The ASC's Stephen Ellis in his keynote speech considered economic growth in Africa in a broader context. Lilianne Ploumen, Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, called for new partnerships during the closing ceremony and witnessed the signing of a partnership between Medical Credit Fund and Philips. Nearly forty workshops were held.

For an overview of media coverage of Africa Works, (e.g. on Nieuwsuur, RTL XL, Oneworld or in de Volkskrant), see ASC in the Media.
