From 1999-2004 a multidisciplinary group of researchers worked on
questions linked to climate change and climate variability which they worked
out in a case study on West-Africa. What kind of scenarios exist with
regards to climate change in West-Africa? How do these scenarios influence
regional dynamics and how do they translate into human agency on the level
of local communities.
Especially in the third part of the research ASC researchers were active:
studies of coping strategies and agency of farmers and herders; patterns of
migration and mobility; development of interdisciplinary methodologies. The
results of this research are published in articles, book chapters, a film
and various Research Reports.
This PowerPoint presentation made by Ton Dietz, director of the Research
Institute for Global Issues and Development Studies (AGIDS) in Amsterdam,
shows some of the outcomes of the climate change project.
