As of 1 January 2009, a new card or the renewal of a library card of the
African Studies Centre will cost € 5,-
A library card of the ASC is valid for one year.
Accepting the library card implies acceptance of the borrowing
regulations of the library of the African Studies Centre.
Loan period
The period of loan is 3 weeks. Renewal for a further 3 weeks is possible unless the book has been reserved by another borrower. You can renew your own books via OPAC (the online library catalogue), or it is possible to do so by e-mail
asclibrary@ascleiden.nl, at the library's circulation desk or by telephone (071-527 3354) during library opening hours. Loans may be renewed up to 10 times.
Borrowers are responsible for returning or renewing a book on time. If
borrowers fail to return books or renew loans on time, they will receive an
overdue notice (rappel) from the ASC library, normally sent by e-mail.
After the dispatch of the first notice (4 weeks after the date of
borrowing, 3 weeks after the date of borrowing for a reserved book) and
after dispatch of the second notice (1 week after the first notice) the
borrower must return the borrowed book or have the loan period extended.
When a notice has been dispatched, renewal of the loan period via the OPAC
is no longer possible.
After the dispatch of the second notice, the borrower's library card is
suspended and no further loans are permitted.
After the dispatch of the third notice (1 week after the second
notice) it is no longer possible to renew the loan period and a fine of € 5,-
is charged for each overdue book.
Fines
If the book has not been returned 3 weeks after the third notice, the
library will purchase a replacement copy.
The borrower will be invoiced for the following costs:
- costs of the replacement copy (new or second-hand)
- administration and processing costs (minimal € 15,-)
- fine (€ 5,-)
The total amount will be at least € 35,- per book.
