July 2011
Mrs Kathleen Ferrier, the chair of our Board of Governors, is a member of
the House of Representatives for the political party CDA. Due to the
discussion in the House of Representatives about the future of the
institutions in the field of international education and research (which
includes the African Studies Centre) and her role as spokesperson, she felt
she had to step down as a member of the Board of Governors in order to
prevent a conflict of interests. The Board of Governors and the Management
Team very much regret this, but fully sympathise with Mrs Ferrier's
decision.
The Board of Governors will now start the procedure of finding a new
chairperson. Prof. Dr. J.B. Opschoor has been asked by the Board of
Governors to be the acting chair, which he accepted.
